Message from Pastor Vickie
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6: 19-21
Throughout his teachings Jesus reminded his followers to put their faith and trust in God, not in things. Our current economic times are testing us all right now.
And there is no better time than right now to count the blessings we have in our lives. What are yours? Take a couple minutes and write down five blessings that you are grateful for. Here are my top five---
I am grateful for a wonderful, loving husband and two cute, awesome dogs.
I am grateful for an extended family that has survived the ups and downs of divorces, addiction, and living far away from each other. We are still close and loving.
I am grateful for the fall season with its beauty and vibrant colors. It reminds me of the natural transitions in life.
I am grateful that I know Jesus Christ and that no matter what happens in the world, he will never leave me alone. He lives in my heart and the outside world cannot take that away from me.
I am grateful to be your pastor and be on the journey with you. Irving Park United Methodist Church has been a joy to serve, and I am expecting that God is going to continue to bless and use us for Her purposes.
If you find yourself worrying, I encourage you to pray instead. If you are angry, pray. If you are frustrated, pray. Pray for those who are making the decisions. Pray that our country and the world not panic. Pray for people who have lost homes and jobs or are on the brink of loosing them. Pray for stability in the market and in our country.
God can take your prayers, not matter how big, small, angry, or confused. Pray, pray, pray, and God will relieve your burdens. Pray that God will give you the courage and compassion to live today.
Trying to let go and lean on the everlasting arms of God,
Pastor Vickie
