Spiritual practices that enhance attitudes of peace will be share along with stories of people who practice peace in their daily lives—famous person you will know but more stories of ordinary folks like us. Join as we celebrate the Baptism of Everett Grey Falconer!

Jan. 31—Stand Up, Stand For, Stand With
Feb. 7—The Life-Giving Power of Peace
Feb. 14—Building a Sustainable, Peaceful Commonwealth

Our scripture readings this Sunday are Isaiah 43: 1-7 and Luke 3:15-17, 21-22

Please note that the 8:45 a.m. Bible study resumes this Sunday.

Prayers for the people of Haiti and those who have loved ones there. Prayers continue for Frank Certa who is slowly making progress healing, getting his strength back and able to do more things on his own after his heart surgery.  If you would like to provide food to Frank and Anna, or help in other ways, please call the church office. Prayers for Gerry and Joyce Mylander in the death of Gerry’s brother, Reuben, who passed away this week at the age of 92. Reuben is survived by his wife, Eunice and their two children and many grandchildren. Prayers for David and Dale as they help Dale’s parents adjust to their new surroundings in a retirement home.

Mission: Information from the Bishop on the UMCOR relief to Haiti is attached. Watch for more specific opportunities through our church and other Chicago-area churches. Please contact the church office if you want to hear about Haiti relief efforts and mission help. In worship this week we will be taking up a collection for Human Relations.  Donations will go to the General Board of Global Ministires for community developers and UM voluntary services programs and General Board of Church and Society, Youth Offender Rehabilitation program.  Here's one story: Redemption Church – Freedom from Bondage for Young Nonviolent Offenders in Oklahoma is an example of how Human Relations Day supports Youth Offender Rehabilitation Programs.  Two churches (from Oklahoma City and Tulsa) cooperate and offer advocacy, victim/offender reconciliation, and reunification of families. Next week we will take up a collection for UMCOR, United Methodist Committee on Relief, for Haiti.  Every dollar helps so please give generously.

ASK OUR CONFIRMANDS for more details about the Hunger Weekend Lock-In they experienced last week when they worked at the Humboldt Park shelter preparing food and helping to feed the homeless. Thanks to Pastor Emily and Lindsey Elton for joining our five young Christians for the weekend.
