The Epiphany of our Lord
Pastor Vickie is participating in a silent retreat for the remainder of this week. During her absence, please call the church office if you need pastoral care. Pastor Lowell and Pastor Emily are available.
We are welcoming Alexandra Petrey as guest preacher this Sunday. “Ali” is in her third year at Garrett and is a friend and fellow student with our seminary intern, Emily Slavicek. Ali is from Dayton, Ohio originally, but has worked in West Ohio and Detroit conferences in a variety of ministry settings over the last 10 years. She is pursuing her MDIV and looks forward to graduation in May 2010 and commissioning in 2011. Pastor Emily will be with Lindsay Elton and our five confirmands who are participating with others from around the Northern Illinois Conference in the District Youth Hunger Retreat and Lock-in at Berry UMC. Keep them in your prayers as they work for those in need around Chicago ... and pray for the day when no one is hungry.
Our scripture readings this Sunday are Isaiah 43: 1-7 and Luke 3:15-17, 21-22
Please note that the 8:45 a.m. Bible study will not be held this Sunday. It resumes January 17.
Prayers continue for Frank Certa who is slowly making progress healing, getting his strength back and able to do more things on his own after his heart surgery. Anna is hanging in there, taking care of their physical and other needs. Their visiting help that was being supplied several days a week has ended. They are doing their best on the road to recovery and healing.
Tammy Rogers’ father, Bob Letherer, had an aortic valve replacement last week. Prayers for a speedy recovery are appreciated!
January Sermon Series—The Prince of Peace has Come … Now What?? The sermon series runs January 17 through February 14.
During Advent, we were on the lookout for signs of God’s presence in our midst. The signs we looked for were hope, joy, peace, and love. The signs of peace were the most difficult for us to find. Is this because there is so little peace in our world or does peace begin with us? Both! Peace is both an inner state of being and an outer reality that is evident in our relationships with each other.
