Choosing Bold Over Mild

Pastor Vickie will preach this Sunday “Choosing Bold Over Mild,” based on the Scripture readings: Mark 10:46-52; Psalm 34:1-8; Corinthians 9:6-8.

Special recognition and thanks to Gerry Mylander for working around the church grounds these past months. Now that it’s getting dark earlier, you will see that our church sign on the Keeler corner is lit once again – after being dark for a decade or so! This required extensive work and rewiring by Gerry. He also has been working on the Chapel area of the church. So much for your retirement, eh Gerry? We thank you.

Wed., Oct. 28, 7:00 p.m. – Deborah’s Circle at The Kraneis home, 3427 N. Tripp Ave., 773-972-7300. Please bring something light and simple to share. The December meeting will be on Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Saturday, Oct. 31, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Nothing But Nets Benefit, District Youth Event Kickoff. Glenview UMC. This is FUN! Play dodgeball. Meet other youth from the conference. Join the confirmation class, Pastor Vickie and Emily, our student intern, for this great event! Help raise money to fight malaria worldwide. Call the church office if you want to attend.

Also on Oct. 31, Prayer Network Event, 8:30 – 12:30 at St. Matthew YMC, Near North Side. Free workshops on types of prayer led by Rev. Dr. Cecilia Harris and our District Superintendent Rev. James Preston.

You’re Invited to our Annual Church Meeting - Charge Conference Nov. 1, 7 p.m.
Our District Superintendent Rev. James Preston will join us to review our past year and look to the future. We’ll hear important reports and plans. This is our annual ALL CHURCH MEETING. You need not be a member to attend. All are welcome. We will meet in Fellowship Hall. Don’t miss this opportunity to make your vote count when it comes to the future of Irving Park UMC! Refreshments will be served and childcare provided. Staff parish relations meets at 6:30 p.m.

November 1 is All Saints Sunday when we remember and celebrate the people in our lives who have guided and inspired our faith. If you have someone in your life who died between November 1, 2008 and now, please send the following to Joyce at the church: Name of deceased, your name, relationship to you, date of death. We will print this information in the bulletin on November 1st. Information must be received by Wed. October 28th. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Vickie.

Music Director applications are being accepted. If you know of a qualified candidate, or want additional information, please contact Pastor Vickie.
