World Communion Sunday

This has been a week of joy, challenge and sorrow within our church family.

Special Prayers
Everett Falconer was born! Kelly McCoy’s life was celebrated. Miriam Johnson (Sina Kraneis’ mother) returned home to her savior. Ellen Star’s mother, Edith, came through surgery to remove a brain tumor and was moved to a nursing home, with plans for hospice. Corey, Carrie, Waylon and Carter-Birch moved into their new home in Iowa! Lyle Rasmussen (Lowell Allen’s son-in-law) is in rehabilitation following an amputation resulting from diabetes. The Ramirez family (friends of the Prathers) morn the loss of their infant son. Ronnie and Judy Smith (Anna Certa’s sister and brother-in-law) are trying to deal with his serious heart problems. Stacey Blaha’s Aunt Brenda continues her battle with cancer and no insurance. Vicci Rodgers Keutzer’s sister, Amy, came through surgery to remove tumors. Kent Keutzer’s older sister, Karen, had surgery to prepare her for chemo to fight breast cancer discovered within the last two weeks. Pastor Vickie has been ill much of the past week. Please keep all of these people, and others you know who are not listed here, in your prayers.

The Sina and Rich Kraneis family join her sister and family and friends in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois as they celebrate the life of this fine, Christian lady, Miriam Johnson, who has joined us many times in service when visiting Chicago. She died following a long battle with breast cancer. A wake will be held on Thursday, October 1, with a funeral on Friday, Oct. 2.

Welcome to the World “Everett Grey Falconer!”
Mother Lisa, father Andrew and brother Benjamin welcomed brother Everett on Thursday, September 24, 2009. Weighing in at 7 lbs., 12 ounces, he’s doing great, as is Mom. Lisa’s mother is in town to lend a helping hand for a couple of weeks but we’re starting the church family meals the week of October 11. If you want to join in, call Joyce in the church office.

World Communion Sunday this week. Pastor Vickie is making a plea to bake or purchase and donate a bread that reflects your heritage. The breads will be presented during worship for placement on the communion table. Please let Pastor know by Friday if you are participating so she can include your information in the liturgy for Sunday’s service.

2009-2010 Confirmation class starts this Sunday, following worship (11:45 – 2 p.m.). Class will meet the first Sunday of every month in addition to an event outside of church each month. Contact Student Pastor Emily Slavicek for more information. emily.slavicek@garrett.edu. Parents are encouraged to join the early part of the discussion this Sunday.

There will be a Memorial Service at our church Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 for Robert Ledene, a resident of the Old Irving Park neighborhood.

Don’t miss the Blessing of the Animals in our church garden next Saturday, October 10 at 2 p.m. If you have free time to stop by and help clean up our Keeler garden, please do so. If you want to donate fall flowers, that’s great too! We need people to make goody bags for children! And, if you can help on the day of the event, come at 1 p.m. to help Pastor Vickie set up for the service. Contact Pastor Vickie to volunteer or for more information.

Friends of Hands to Help Ministries will benefit when you shop & share at the local Jewel Osco – October 5, 6 & 7. Hands to Help will receive 5% of your purchase. The funds raised will be used for rental, utility, and transportation assistance. Hands to Help Ministries reaches out to homeless people and those in danger of becoming homeless on the Northwest side.
