Nevada Iowa Mission Group Returns to IPUMC

Greetings!

July 29 - movie night at the church. Come watch Happy Feet at 7 p.m. This is part of our Ecological emphasis, led by our “Stewards of Creation” small group leader: lindseyelton@hotmail.com Bring a blanket (if you want to be on the floor, chairs also available) and something to drink. Bring friends. The more the merrier. It’s free (goodwill donations accepted of course). We’ll have fresh popcorn!

July 30 - our Iowa Youth Mission group arrives. You are invited to join in at any point during the week. Just contact Vicci or Kent for details on what’s happening that day as some things may change slightly. Help is always needed and appreciated. This is an amazing group of people (teens, college kids and adults) who have dedicated themselves to helping our church over the past 6 years! This also is a great chance for high school students to earn community service hours while helping the community and our church! If you are interested in being involved, please contact Vicci or Kent Keutzer, vicci@therodgersgroup.com, coachk1620@yahoo.com. 773-316-9754 (mobile) The schedule is attached. The youth will sing for our Sunday worship and there will be a cookout following services. They’d love to see you there.

August 1 - keep Pastor Adam Thompson (our student pastor) and Ashley Barlow in your prayers as they are married in the chapel on the campus of Garrett Evangelical Seminary, where they both are students. We’ll have a gathering when they return from their honeymoon. Congratulations Adam and Ashley.

August 3 - Sunday night rally at Evanston UMC. Those who have heard the guest speaker say this is a “not to miss” event! Ask Pastor Vickie or Ellen Star about details and to arrange to join a carpool from the church. Featured speaker is Rev. Mike Slaughter, lead pastor at Ginghamsburg Church. http://ginghamsburg.org This event is part of the School of Congregational Development and is free.

Thank you to our friends from the Reconciling program. The personal testimonies shared in worship last Sunday were compelling and reinforced our position as a church that supports this movement ... and a world that is open to all. Thank you again! Pastor Vickie will lead worship this Sunday and David Foster will lead us next Sunday. Sprouts Sunday school is on vacation this week and next. Youth are invited to remain in worship and children under age 5 can go to the nursery.

Punching holes in the church. Yes, members of our Trustees are punching holes around the church. This is in preparation for the specialists to come in and tell how we can best prepare our building for the future. So, you’ll see workers and equipment on our corner and around our building over the coming weeks. We’ll be sharing reports on findings and plans ... and how you can help. If you have specific questions, contact a member of our board of trustees. This is all positive, it just doesn’t look pretty right now.

Hour of prayer with Pastor Vickie starts up again this Tuesday. See details below.

On Sunday, August 30, there will be a Blessing of the Backpacks at both worship services. Pastor Cecilia Obret with our Mission Hispana congregation, purchased backpacks last year for the children. This year we will add other children who can’t afford a nice backpack for school. If you are interested in more information about how you can be part of this, contact Pastor Vickie.

The Polish American Camp group will end their summer day school at our church on August 13. If you haven’t stopped down to the Fellowship Hall lately, you should do so to see the wonderful artwork and projects the children have worked on this summer. The group meets at our church Monday, Tuesday and Thursday every week, 8:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Prayer Network: If you are interested in being part of this group, or would like to have them pray for a special person or cause, contact Tina or Wally Felckowski: bwf79@sbcglobal.net
