Reconciling Ministries Celebration Sunday

This week we celebrate being a Reconciling congregation. Audrey Krumbach the Young Adult Outreach Coordinator, and G-ETS graduate, will preach. Come hear personal testimonies from our partners in ministry upstairs, Reconciling Ministries Network — working for full inclusion in our denomination for gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual folks. Irving Park UMC has been passionate about being open and welcoming to ALL people since 1988 — long before it was “fashionable!” Pastor Vickie hopes you will make the time to come hear about the inspiring and difficult work that is being done.

Remember Sprouts is happening during the summer so come to worship and bring your children. Sina Kraneis will be your leader this week. This is Sunday School for our youths up to 5th grade. We also have full nursery care every Sunday for our babies and toddlers.

Progressive dinner to support Hands To Help Ministries – tomorrow night – July 23!
Join Pastor Vickie and Mark at the 7 p.m. seating. Explore local restaurants, eat a great meal, support a good cause! Thursday, July 23, 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. First course at Meisa Café, 4908 W. Pastor Returns from Vacation

Pastor Vickie is back and we’re on track again. Here’s her message:

“Mark and I had a wonderful time in Michigan. Mark played 10 rounds of golf on his favorite championship course. The staff remembered him from last year and that made him feel good. You’ll have to ask him how he did. While golfing he spotted various forms of wildlife—turkey, fawns and their moms—sharing “their” golf course with him.

We spent time with family and friends. One old friend, Sara and I have known each other since we were little. Both our grandfathers were Methodist ministers and we met up at the lake each summer. She was up north from New York. It was great for me to catch up with her, and for Mark to get to know her too.

Heard some excellent preaching at Bay View. Rev. Dr. Leslie Griffiths preached on July 12. He’s the Senior Minister at John Wesley’s Chapel in England. He was very engaging and funny. When I went over to thank him for his message, we found out that we have some common friends. Just another reminder of how small the United Methodist world is!

In order to enjoy the extra ‘goodies’ I love to have on vacation, I made sure to get in a few runs along Lake Michigan. The dogs, Mark and I enjoyed going to a local nature preserve on Lake Michigan that has trails and sand dunes. Read two books –not on ministry—and enjoyed sitting in the cottage or at a coffee shop not doing much of anything!

Overall, it was a restful, laid back vacation. We are both looking forward to seeing all of you this Sunday, or in the near future, to reconnect.”
– Pastor Vickie
