The Second Sunday in Lent

Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.”

Our Small Group Study during Lent covers The Three Simple Rules for Christian Living:
Do No Harm
Do Good
Stay in Love with God

To find out why these rules are so important for Christians, and how you can practice them, join one of the five small groups being offered over the next four weeks: Mon., 6:30 p.m.; Tues., 1 p.m.; Wed., 8 p.m.; Thurs., 7 p.m. or Sun. 8:45 a.m. Pass the word to others who may be interested. Contact the church office for information on how to register.

This Sunday all children are invited to remain in worship. There will be no Sprouts program, but the nursery will be available for ages 6 months through 4 years. We will have an interactive service as we join together during this second Sunday in Lent.

Our first Parents Lunch Out got off to a great start last Sunday. We had 13 children and great help from our teens: Kyle, Cole, Anna and Abby. Our adult helpers included: Adam, Lowell and Vicci. The kids played, snacked and napped while their parents enjoyed a quiet lunch with Pastor Vickie and Mark Hadaway.

The Irving Park Community Food Pantry that operates out of the lower level of our church served 1,486 people in 529 households in February. Total new clients for the month were 282 people in 99 families. Irving Park UMC will hold a special food drive throughout April to help the pantry keep up with increasing demand for food supplies. For more information about the pantry, and how you can help, visit its web site www.irvingparkfoodpantry.com

Sunday Worship: 10 a.m. followed by fellowship time. Nursery available for infants and toddlers.

Special prayers this week for Gerry and Joyce Mylander who are mourning the death of Clayton Mylander on March 2. Gerry’s brother passed away after fighting a battle with cancer. He was 78. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Michiko, and their family. Visitation is Thursday 3 to 9 p.m. Funeral services are Friday, 11 a.m., at Casey-Laskowski & Sons Funeral Home, 4540-50 W. Diversey Ave.

We received word from our sister in Christ, Teri Lafferty, a member of our church for over 15 years, who is pursuing her call to ministry. Teri reports that she met with the district committee last week and has been approved as a certified candidate for ministry. Teri will be the guest speaker at our March 28 United Methodist Women meeting. We’re proud of you Teri!

Prayers for ...
Mary Martell’s burn. That it will continue to heal.
Brent Prather’s father, and mother, both who are suffering from illnesses.
Kent Keutzer’s sister, Kelly, whose six-year battle with breast cancer continues.
Pastor Cecilia’s mother who is recovering from recent surgery.
All those touched by the economic crisis, especially those out of work.

Our Prayer Network consists of faithful prayer partners who pray for everyone that has submitted a prayer request to the group, either spoken, or written on the forms provided with our Prayer Boxes. To become part of our praying group contact Tina & Wally Felckowski, bwf79@sbcglobal.net
